Job Description

About the Role

My client operates at the heart of the entertainment industry, delivering Production and Event Management services across theatre, live events, and TV/film, alongside a full-service scenic workshop building bespoke sets. As they continue to grow, they’re expanding their offering across creative sectors — and they’re now looking for a Commercial & Business Development Manager to lead that growth.

The Opportunity

This senior-level, strategic role focuses on accelerating commercial growth across the business. You’ll lead on revenue generation, business development, partnerships, and marketing — ensuring all efforts align with the wider mission and long-term commercial strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Relations

  • Generate new business through both existing and new client networks.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Drive a consistent pipeline of commercial opportunities.
  • Proactively seek out and convert new business leads.

Commercial Strategy & Growth

  • Identify existing products/services with revenue potential and lead on tenders.
  • Build and implement a group-wide commercial model.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director to shape and deliver growth plans, including acquisitions.
  • Ensure all commercial activity supports the wider mission and delivers measurable impact.
  • Monitor key commercial data and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate across departments to support strategic sales activity.

Marketing & Digital

  • Support the Marketing Manager in shaping and executing marketing and digital strategies.
  • Help ensure visibility and brand alignment across digital channels.

Financial Oversight

  • Continuously improve commercial efficiency and income generation.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and monitor commercial targets.
  • Oversee delegated budgets and provide monthly reporting to the Director.
  • Track and report on sales performance.

Leadership & Operational Duties

  • Represent the business confidently and professionally at all times.
  • Be an active contributor to the senior management team and wider organisational strategy.
  • Champion a culture of high client care and internal collaboration.
  • Maintain strong documentation standards and ensure GDPR compliance.
  • Promote and uphold health and safety standards.
  • Represent the business in industry discussions, including trade union environments.

What You’ll Bring

Essential

  • Proven experience in business development within the entertainment production industry.
  • Commercial expertise including target setting, forecasting, and delivering growth.
  • Strong marketing understanding within creative/production contexts.
  • Good working knowledge of scenic/set construction.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Experience in managing tendering processes and supplier negotiations.
  • Financial management experience at a senior level.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office systems.
  • Energetic, strategic, and able to lead on end-to-end commercial projects.
  • Strong alignment with the client’s values and mission.

Desirable

  • Degree or relevant qualification.
  • Interest in theatre, live events, or film/TV.
  • Experience with CAD software (Vectorworks ideal).
  • Experience using Flex Rental Solutions.
  • Knowledge of production equipment.
  • First Aid qualified.
  • Full UK driving licence.
